(F) Fun With Flamingos

A few years ago, I decided to throw a summer party and came up with "A White Trash Bash"theme. Everyone was to dress redneck/hillbilly/trailer-park-fashionable and I decorated the yard with the appropriate tackiness to set the mood. (It was my best party ever.)

I decided that pink flamingos in the flower bed were right along those lines- plus the fact that I could use them at my next theme party- which was going to be a luau.

What I discovered is that I love my flamingos! They bring that funky flair to my mundane backyard view and pop with their Pepto Bismol pinkness amid the green growth.
In fact, I've started leaving them out year round.

But, of course, I couldn't just let them be. I had to incorporate them into my Halloween parties and even the Disco party I hosted a few summers back.

I've sure had fun with them! A cheap investment, but great memories...

Fabulous post, Rae! I love your flamingo with the blond wig. Gives me all kinds of ideas except for days like yesterday where the wind was a gustin'. That poor girl would have been bald. I don't remember if I told you our daughter took 3 year old granddaughter, Bailey, to the zoo last fall. She kept saying she wanted to go see the "mangos." Yep, when she saw the flamingos, it was an ah-ha moment! Have a great day - love your A-Zs.

Hey!!! I made it on the "F" day~!! Flamingoes are highly under-rated!! They have the ability to "dress up" ANY yard and when dressed up they are cute as all get out~!! You, (genius party-giver) are the ingenious one~!! Great witty posting, loved it~!!
See you with the letter "G"~!

Popping from A to Z, and I have to say, that is absolutely hilarious. My belly hurts. I've always loved flamingos too, and this just made my day.

Thanks and have fun with your backyard friends!

I'm jealous, I think our HOA outlawed flamingos and other various yard decorations!

Love it! I never thought to dress up flamingos before. It's a shame this post didn't exist 11 years ago. I had a teacher who had a flamingo statue outside her classroom. She would've loved dressing it up.

Too funny! Pink flamingos have such a bad reputation for too long. I'm happy to see them out strutting their stuff!

Okay, now you made me want to go back to visit The Flamingo in Las Vegas. Creating it in your backyard was GENIUS.

Love it...and love the blog. Flamingo's are cool.

I have a couple of stuffed Koalas: Toys of course, large ones that greet my guests in different clothes for each occasion.

But then I also have a novel where the central hero is a 28ft crocodile named Cyril who only wears Gucci, drinks JD and loves Al Pacino..you can meet Cyril as I interviewed him er-hem on my "C" page. I am delighted to find a site where the creativity is rampant.

Oh your flamingoes are gorgeous. I hope you've named them all! Have you seen the movie "Gnomeo & Juliet"? A pink flamingo takes a starring role in that!

These are wild! I just love a good redneck party, by the way! haha Totally funny.

We moved to a new neighborhood one year ago this week. They have a tradition here that on the morning of the 4th of July the household who currently possesses "the flamingo" hides it and all the children go out to find it. The lucky family who's children/child found the bird MUST display the thing all year! Yikes! And, hey, guess what, my kids found it last year.

So, yes, I have a flamingo too.

Cracks me up.

You have such a sweet site - a breath of fresh air! heehee

I've enjoyed my first tour of it.

Ha! I love how creative you were with their costumes. I should take a page out of your book for my kids' costumes this year.

You'd get along with my youngest. She got married in the chapel/mausoleum on Halloween night.
